Common questions

What are the Healthy Homes standards?

They're minimum standards for heating, insulation, ventilation, moisture, and draught stopping that all NZ rental properties must meet. They became law in July 2019 and have been fully enforceable since July 2021.

What happens if I'm not compliant?

Your tenant can apply to the Tenancy Tribunal. If you're found to be non-compliant, you can be fined up to $7,200 per breach, payable directly to the tenant. You may also be required to bring the property up to standard within a set timeframe.

Is the compliance check really free?
